Dr. Eric Westman’s take on leaving the keto diet and eating carbs again
Yeah. So the older you are, the more diabetes that the lower you’re going to have to be with the carbs forever, you know, but I think if you go back to the way you were eating. Before you’re just going to, it’s just a matter of time until you regain all the way, it can go back to where you work. So you never want to go back to eating the same way that got you in trouble in the first place.
But yes, you can incorporate more carbs depending on your metabolism. And we find that between 50 grams and, and 75 is where a lot of people will end up. If you’re very active, you’re very young. And you’re avoiding the sugar, refined sugar, refined flour, meaning you’re having vegetables mainly, beans, things like that.
And you might be able to have 150 grams of carbs a day, you know, remember young active, but the method, the way we have you reincorporate or add back carbs is very slow. So it’s about five grams per day, per week. That’s a quarter of an Apple, a quarter of a peach. They, you know, a very small amount of fruit.
Add back carbs carefully
So add back carbs very carefully, very slowly as you want your situation. If it was weight, you want to watch, and see if you’re gaining weight again. Uh, and most people can add back, um, Carbs, if you’re healthy, to begin with. So if you’re, if you’re otherwise healthy, you’re young and you’re using this just to lose weight.
Yes. You can go back to eating carbs. You have to be careful with the amount. In fact, the way we do it is we just wrote a book that’s going to be out in December. And the book’s name is called end. Your carb confusion. It will be available through a publisher called victory belts in U S. and there we explain the different levels of carbs that you may be able to end up with.
But since I can’t predict yet, there’s no test that says you can have 60 grams it’s trial and error it’s and knowing what to follow. And then the biggest mistake people I see make is that they add way too many carbs. And remember a cup of rice is 40 grams of carbs. Yeah. That’s a lot when you’re dealing with ketosis, but most people can go back to having some rice, uh, um, uh, some beans, but not as many as they had before.
Dr. Westman recommends adding back carbs carefully in your diet and doesn’t end up eating more than your requirements.
