Onion Bhajis are one of the most common Indian snack. They are made from thinly sliced onions, marinated in chickpea flour batter, lightly seasoned, and deep-fried till crisp. On keto, most of the ingredients are acceptable other than Besan or chickpea flour. Even though that isn\’t too high on carbs either. But, in keto onion bhaji you can use flax seed flour and egg. Normally, this is vegetarian food but on keto, you need to tweak a bit to get the result you want. We always can\’t do whatever we wish for.
The keto onion bhajis are loaded with tender sweet onion, aromatic spices, coated in a crunchy almond batter, and pan-fried until golden. These bhajis require no special ingredients, just a few spices, an onion, and olive oil for frying. It makes for an excellent side to keto curries or as a snack with raita dipping sauce.
Ingredients-
- one medium-sized white onion
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- one egg
- 1 tsp cumin and coriander each
- 50 g ground almonds
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- Sea salt
- Olive oil for frying
- ⅛ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Adjoin the ground almonds, baking soda, turmeric, cumin, coriander, salt, pepper, and lemon juice to a food processor. Pulse to combine.
- Add the egg and blend to a smooth thick paste. Transfer the contents to a mixing bowl.
- Finely slice the onion and add to the bowl with the batter. Stir well, so that the onion and batter are combined.
- Warm the oil in a small saucepan over high heat. Once hot, scoop a tablespoon of the onion and batter mixture at a time and very carefully dip into the pan. You can fry 3 bhajis at a time.
- Prepare for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden and crisp, then repeat the same with the remaining batter.
- Cautiously transfer the cooked bhajis to a sheet of kitchen paper to soak up the excess oil.
